Steve Rockamaniac Reviews...
You Shoot is the latest innovation that Kayfabe Commentaries have brought to the wrestling merchandise world. First they brought us alternative commentaries by actual wrestlers for some of the most famous matches of their careers. Then they brought us the Guest Booker DVD series, and informed the people how things are done, why they are done, and how things could have been done in the pro wrestling world. Now they bring us something that will take Shoot Interview DVDs to a new level. Im Canadian, but throughout the years have often checked in on the latest in the United States political scene, because of this I saw the new innovation brought into the presidential debates by You Tube and CNN when they allowed the everyday Americans to ask the candidates questions that were important to them and have them answered on national television. I thought this was a great idea especially when I saw some wacky people getting a chance to wave a gun around and ask about how their rights would be protected, so when I heard a wrestling DVD was going to offer the same format, I was rather intrigued. In relation to that having been involved in the wrestling-radio world for nearly 5 years, I have gotten the chance to interview many of wrestlings stars, and know first hand that sometimes the fans can offer a great or completely over the top question via phone line or email so I knew this project was destined for success. The first in what I hope will be a long and illustrious shoot interview series features The Honky Tonk Man, a guy who is very qualified for this new type of shoot interview as he has done plenty of normal shoot interviews before. The DVD lasts just over 2 hours, and not only flies by, but leaves you wanting more. I swear I could of sat there for another 2 or 3 hours and not got the least bit bored. Only a few questions were what I considered rather wacky or over the top, but that didnt stop Honky from making some rather crazy comments every few minutes or so, whether it be making fun of Bret Harts stroke, taking shots at wrestlers being a born again christian, or revealing just how the girls backstage who create the costumes got their jobs, Honky will have you dropping your mouth in awe, laughing your ass off, or nodding in agreement many times over a 2 hour span. Amongst the major topics covered are Why isnt HTM in the Hall of Fame, His run with the IC belt and how he compares to other IC champions, The Wrestling Life-Sex/Drugs and yes, steroids, which Honky goes on a rant about calling out guys and setting congress straight on what their crackdown may do to pro wrestling. Also Honky is asked about wrestling today, The Jake-Guitar incident, Retirement, The Dirt Sheets and so much more. Amongst the wacky questions are asking HTM amongst Sunny, Francine, and Missy Hyatt who he would F-Marry-Kill! and Who was the biggest pothead backstage? The videos include some from unknown indy wrestlers who try to call the Honky Tonk Man out but he sets them straight in a truly hilarious fashion. I must give some major props to host Sean Oliver, he comes off as a very knowledgeable and prepared host, I can't count how many times i've watched a shoot interview where a host asks a question and the wrestler can't remember something happening and the host has nothing to help him out and obviously doesn't know about what they just asked, it's annoying, but Sean Oliver seems to know exactly what he is talking about which I appreciated so much. If I had to say something negative about this DVD it was that there was too many emails and not enough video questions, part of the allure to this would be is to see whos asking the question and sometimes get a shot taken at them like Honky did in this volume. Perhaps there wasnt a lot of videos worthy of using as this company was still somewhat unknown until recently when there DVD projects began making a huge splash in the wrestling world. Now that they have, I hope it means that next time they do a You Shoot installment that many more fans submit a question and we get many more years of great You Shoots to come. You Shoot :
