STEVE ROCKAMANIAC REVIEWS...
When the topic of women in professional wrestling comes up, the train of thought used to automatically go down the route of them belonging outside of the ring as valets instead of ever stepping between the ropes to be credible in ring competitors. However in recent years many fan’s opinions have started to change thanks to WWE and TNA both having female championships, but for those who have stuck to their stubborn beliefs, there is something you need to see. Shimmer Women Athletes is an all women’s federation in the US that has been in operation for over 2 years now. Earlier this month, Big Vision Entertainment released Volume 6 of the Shimmer DVD series nationwide. For those who have never heard of Shimmer, Every couple of months the company holds an event specifically to tape for DVD release and trust me when I say that after you see a Shimmer event your perception of women’s wrestling will be changed forever. The women of Shimmer are some of the hardest working female athletes you’ll ever see in action, quite frankly many of them can not only wrestle as good as men, but in some instances they probably wrestle better than guys. Specifically looking at Volume 6, You will get a chance to see current TNA Woman’s Champ Awesome Kong, VKM partner Roxxi Lavaugh, as well as Future WWE Diva Nattie Neidhart, but it’s the names you’ve probably never heard of that will impress you most, As the main event between Cheerleader Melissa and MsChif is a Last Woman Standing Match, and for the first time ever in the US a Pure Wrestlng Rules Woman’s match between Rebecca Knox and Allison Danger, And I must say that you should not expect these main events to be like any 6 minute WWE style afterthought matches, these girls deliver in a big way. The rest of the card is as follows : Tag Team Challenge Match : The Minnesota Home Wrecking Crew of Lacey and Rain taking on Sara Del Rey and Mercedes Martinez, Daizee Haze taking on UK Female star Nikita, also Lorelai Lee vs Nikki Roxx (TNA’s Roxxi Lavaugh), Amber O Neal vs Serena Deeb, and Six Woman Tag Team Mayhem as Lexie Fyfe, Malia Hosaka and TNA Star Amazing Kon takeon Ariel, Josie and Cindy Rogers. For the record, like many reviews of wrestling event DVD’s, I could go through each match and recap it and give it a rating, but I don’t think that would do this DVD justice and perhaps even take away from your enjoyment of it as everyone has a different opinion on spoilers, but I will say that the girls at Shimmer continue to impress me with the level of quality of matches they present, and I recommend this DVD to any wrestling fan, specifically those who think woman don’t belong in the ring, because if you watch a Shimmer DVD, there is no way you could come back to me and continue to say that woman cant put on a great wrestling match. I will say that the DVD isn’t perfect, the wrestling action itself may be great but some of the production values could stand for an upgrade as lighting isn’t the best it could be, also there is no intro/outro’s for the matches, probably because of unliscenced music being used. Two Bonus Matches are also included which feature Cheerleader Melissa teaming with future WWE Diva Nattie Neidhart to take on the Dangerous Angels of Sara Del Rey and Allison Danger, As well as a match between “The First Lady of Hardcore” Lufisto and Josie. There is also a Shimmer Girls Photo Gallery for your viewing pleasure. Shimmer Women Athletes : Volume 6 has now been released nationwide via Big Vision Entertainment for the much affordable price of $ 9.98 ,Volumes 1 thru 5 are also available and For more details head on over to www.bvdvd.com , or you can visit the company’s official website at www.shimmerwrestling.com
